The theme for this year’s WFD was “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together” where an exhibition took place at Mall of Arabia in Jeddah city.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, celebrated World Food Day (WFD) and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Jeddah at the Mall of Arabia.
WFD takes place every year on 16th of October and highlights the urgent issue of hunger and actions we can take to promote sustainable food systems.
The theme for this year’s WFD was “Grow, Nourish, Sustain. Together” where an exhibition took place at Mall of Arabia in Jeddah city with the aim of highlighting the connection between food and our collective responsibilities, which is in line with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development to grow healthy food, nourish the global community, and sustain our resources for present and future generations.
This year WFD also puts a special focus on our food heroes at all levels – from the farm to the table. The exhibitions accompanying the celebrations have continued for three days.
Dr. Abubaker Mohamed, the FAO representative to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia thanked the Kingdom for its great interest in enhancing food security, which comes on top of the strategic objectives of the Kingdom's 2030 vision, and for its success in developing pioneering national strategies such as the National Strategy for Food Security and the National Strategy for Agriculture, which includes programs and initiatives aimed at ensuring its food security not only during certain times, but also in crisis and emergency situations, which have proven successful and effective in light of the emerging COVID-19 pandemic.
