Press Release

United Nations Day observed in Saudi Arabia

24 October 2019

  • This year, the United Nations Office in Saudi Arabia offers its partners an opportunity to bring visions for a sustainable and inclusive future to life.

RIYADH/24-Oct-2019 The UN House opened its doors to partners, champions and counterparts to honor the 74th annual UN Day. The 24th of October marks the ratification of the United Nations Charter in 1945, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as one of its initial signatories.

This year, the United Nations Office in Saudi Arabia offers its partners an opportunity to bring visions for a sustainable and inclusive future to life. It is through a spirit of collectivity that the government, private sector, and civil society in Saudi Arabia can translate Saudi Arabia’s Vison 2030 and the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into national development action. On this occasion the United Nations highlights its role in supporting nationwide development across The Kingdom for peace, prosperity and the planet for people, now and in the future.

This event reaffirms the continuity of development partnership between the United Nations and the Saudi government. Currently, the United Nations is a key proponent to the transformative reforms across the Kingdom.  As the United Nations Resident Coordinator, H.E. Ms. Nathalie Fustier stated in her speech “Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 aligns to the Decade of Action to achieve the SDGs; The changes already underway have been historic. The ones to come can be transformational.”

In observance of this day The United Nations evokes the need to engage the potential of vibrant communities across Saudi Arabia. By bringing together a wide tapestry of stakeholders the United Nations reaffirms the accomplishments made over the past year and hopes to inspire durable change in the future by leaving no-one behind.
