Progress Toward Malaria Elimination in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
25 November 2019
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia made significant progress towards elimination of malaria from the late 1940s through to the early 1980s. Malaria remained entrenched in the south-western regions of the country and epidemics plagues these regions during the 1990s. As a result of these epidemics, a concerted effort was again made to eliminate malaria from the country. The Government of Saudi Arabia has made an outstanding political and financial commitment to a malaria elimination strategy since 2000 within the framework of the national plan for socioeconomic development of south western regions.
