14 December 2020
14 December 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency
For seven decades, the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) has been protecting refugees globally. As there are now more than 80 million forcibly displaced in the world, this anniversary is meant to reflect on the past, present, and future of the global refugee situation and on refugee protection.
On its 70th anniversary, the regional representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Mr. Khaled Khalifa, commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for their support over the past ten years. He also highlighted the importance of this strategic partnership for the Commission, where King Salman Relief Center and Saudi Development Fund played key roles.
Across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the show of this partnership adorned the many iconic landmarks.
